Summary

Two childhood friends。 Two broken hearts。 One impromptu road trip to get away from everything。 That’s all this was supposed to be。 Afterall, I’ve been living in the friend zone for years now。

But hockey heartthrob Jasper Gervais isn’t looking at me like a friend anymore。 And he isn’t touching me like one either。

To his fans, he’s the handsome, talented athlete on TV。 But to me he’s still the lost boy with sad eyes and a heart of gold。

The man I’ve loved in secret for years。

So when my life falls apart on my wedding day, it only makes sense that he’s the one to swoop in and save me。 And when his world comes crashing down around him, I’m there to return the favor。

But the more time we spend alone, the more Jasper doesn’t feel like a friend at all。 He feels like everything I’ve ever wanted and thought I could never have。

Our feelings aren’t straight forward though。 They twist and turn around the pain of his past and the reality of my present。

Jasper Gervais acts like he wants me。

But after years of turning me away, he’s going to need to prove it。

After reading the first two books in the series, I was prepared to adore this book。 Sadly, I was let down a bit, it’s just not as strong as the other books in the series。 The characters are childhood crushes who never lost their feelings, but they’re so damn blind and stupid to very obvious signs of feelings。 It’s so blindly obvious, you just want to smack them。 It felt very drawn out, they could’ve gotten together SO much earlier。 The ending felt rushed while the first half of the book felt pai After reading the first two books in the series, I was prepared to adore this book。 Sadly, I was let down a bit, it’s just not as strong as the other books in the series。 The characters are childhood crushes who never lost their feelings, but they’re so damn blind and stupid to very obvious signs of feelings。 It’s so blindly obvious, you just want to smack them。 It felt very drawn out, they could’ve gotten together SO much earlier。 The ending felt rushed while the first half of the book felt painfully slow。 I set aside this novel for a couple of weeks to read more exciting stories instead。 The ending is cute, I’ll always be a sucker for a HEA。 。。。more

Another cute book in the series! I like the vibe of these books and adore the setting。 The couple I’m this one is cute and I really like them both as people。Unfortunately not higher than a 4 for the following reasons:With the first two books I didn’t rate them higher because of the amount of smut scenes; I’m no prude and don’t care how many times they do it but I don’t need to read it in detail every single time like bestie just imply and move on。 The same was true of this one kind of too。 I did Another cute book in the series! I’d that’s what they wanna do that’s great but let’s abbreviate the scenes and have some other stuff going on😂 that being said I would still absolutely recommend this series - there’s enough amazing stuff in them that the slightly overdone smut doesn’t ruin them for me at all。 I’m also glad the smut didn’t replace their show of feelings here。 I felt like they still very much showed their adoration of the other outside of smut which I wasn’t completely convinced of in the first two! 。。。more

Powerless to the effect of this book on me。 This series owns me entirely。 How can one recover and go back to real life after reading this。 Jasper was everything, I seriously have a thing for the broken hero type。 He was written so beautifully tragic, I couldn’t not love him。 The boy with the sad eyes and the soft golden heart。 He would do anything to make her happy and I was living for it。 Sloane was unashamed in love with him for nearly two decades, now that’s unrequited love。 I loved how power Powerless to the effect of this book on me。 This series owns me entirely。 How can one recover and go back to real life after reading this。 Jasper was everything, I seriously have a thing for the broken hero type。 He was written so beautifully tragic, I couldn’t not love him。 The boy with the sad eyes and the soft golden heart。 He would do anything to make her happy and I was living for it。 Sloane was unashamed in love with him for nearly two decades, now that’s unrequited love。 I loved how powerful she became throughout the story。 The friendship bond the girls are wielding in this series is absolutely inspired。 I really just truly loved this story so much。 Lastly my absolute favorite part of this series beside the love stories and spice of course, is Harvey and this absolutely amazing sense of humor。 I was laughing my ass off reading about the interactions between all these Eaton boys。 This will definitely be a forever favorite series of mine。 。。。more

The boy with the sad eyes and the girl who fell in love as soon as she met those eyes。 Jas and Sloane forever & ever <3 this book was absolutely perfect in every way。 Two souls, despite all life threw at them, who found their way back to one another as it was always meant to be them。 Nothing better than “It has always been you” trope。 Childhood best friends to lovers and second chance。 Perfection <3。

Considering it’s 3 am right now and I have class in a few hours, this book was great。 Better than the first one。 Maybe I’m just becoming a sucker for friends to lovers / childhood romance ish or just Jasper’s filthy mouth。 The tension between them and finally diving into Jasper’s personality。 It’s always the quiet guys。 Also I started the 2nd book Heartless and the 3rd book Powerless around the same time but Powerless just sucked me in。 It’s been a while since I binge read a book but this was ho Considering it’s 3 am right now and I have class in a few hours, this book was great。 Better than the first one。 Maybe I’m just becoming a sucker for friends to lovers / childhood romance ish or just Jasper’s filthy mouth。 The tension between them and finally diving into Jasper’s personality。 It’s always the quiet guys。 Also I started the 2nd book Heartless and the 3rd book Powerless around the same time but Powerless just sucked me in。 It’s been a while since I binge read a book but this was hot and entertaining。 。。。more

4⭐️/ 4🌶️I feel like out of all the books so far in the Chestnut Springs series, I’ve heard the most about Jasper and Sloane。 Jasper was present in the previous books, but usually sticking to his quiet and stoic personality, he didn’t like being the center of attention, and while he wasn’t much of an outgoing guy, he did love spending time with his family the Eaton’s。 In the previous book, “Heartless”, we finally got introduced to Sloane, the Eaton’s cousin。 From a young age, Sloane and Jasper an 4⭐️/ 4🌶️I feel like out of all the books so far in the Chestnut Springs series, I’ve heard the most about Jasper and Sloane。 Jasper was present in the previous books, but usually sticking to his quiet and stoic personality, he didn’t like being the center of attention, and while he wasn’t much of an outgoing guy, he did love spending time with his family the Eaton’s。 In the previous book, “Heartless”, we finally got introduced to Sloane, the Eaton’s cousin。 From a young age, Sloane and Jasper and the rest of the Eaton’s would spend time together in the summers having fun together。 Jasper and Sloane continued to be great friends even as adults as they went on to become successful in their own careers。 With Sloane’s wedding coming, Jasper started to realize he had deeper feelings for Sloane, whereas Sloane had always had feelings for Jasper since they were younger。 With a friends to lovers romance, a runaway bride and a NHL hockey player find themselves running off together, rediscovering the connection they always had to finally taking the leap they should have taken long ago。Right away, it was clear that Jasper and Sloane cared very deeply about one another。 Even with Sloane’s engagement to her horrible Fiancé, she couldn’t help but constantly think about how much she had always adored Jasper, but was left thinking he didn’t see her that way。 Thankfully Sloane’s wedding didn’t happen and she made her great escape with Jasper! Woo! I was so glad to see that Sloane didn’t go through with the wedding since it was obvious that she wasn’t happy with anything regarding it or even feeling genuinely in love with Mr。 Dumb butt cheating guy。 Anyways, as per usual Jasper was there to help Sloane, and they “rode off” to Chestnut Springs, the place that held meaningful memories for Sloane and the place she felt safest。Jasper had always been a character that left me curious and wanting to know about his backstory。 Based on the little details mentioned in the previous books, it seemed like Jasper hadn’t always had an easy life especially before joining the Eaton’s。 This book dove into Jasper’s past, what he went through, and subsequently the trauma that I had no idea about。 Jasper was a quiet man, kept things to himself, but those closest to him knew him like no one else from the Eaton’s and Sloane。 I got a better understanding of Jasper as a person, and seeing how he needed to maintain control due to his anxiety。 Sloane was the dutiful daughter who agreed to an engagement with a man for the sake of her father’s business which by the way doesn’t sound romantic to me when it comes to marrying someone。 My point being, Sloane was just going through the motions of what was expected of her especially with her dad。 Sloane loved dancing, it was both her form of expression and enjoying herself, but more than that she felt the safest and at most ease with Jasper。 For Sloane to take the time to recover from everything and take time for herself was good, but it also gave her the opportunity to spend time with Jasper。 I liked Sloane, she was sweet, caring, fiery when she wanted to be, and an overall lovely person you couldn’t help loving (just ask Jasper)。The friendship aspect of the story was really sweet and genuine。 With Sloane’s sunshine personality and Jasper’s quiet deposition, they somehow just made sense together。 Jasper tended to get in his head about things from his anxiety, memories of his childhood, but with Sloane at his side to cheer him up, and simply be there to keep him company, he found a sense of peace with her。 Even with the fall out of the almost wedding, and dealing with her ex-Fiancé and dad, Sloane desperately needed to get away, and Jasper was yet again there for her to provide the way。 With the road trip, it provided more alone time for Sloane and Jasper to reconnect and in a way just let loose from the impromptu swimming in the lake to the joking around。 I liked seeing Sloane and Jasper let go a little bit because they both had some things going on, and needed the time to regroup, but also just let themselves be in the moment where they forgot about their worries。 GIRLLLLLL! Jasper was really out here casually saying the most beautiful things to Sloane like, hello? I would love for a man to compliment my eyes and basically describe them as being so pretty like the freaking sky or something! Jasper wasn’t much of a talker, but when he did speak, it was with meaning and the words spoken held truth to them。 I also loved the way how devoted Jasper was in both the way he spoke and acted with Sloane。 When it came to the high stressed situation with the brakes while driving through the highway, this man legitimately was scared to death over the idea of losing Sloane and telling her HE COULDN’T LOSE HER! I WAS INTERNALLY SQUEALING WITH THAT! Lots of great things Jasper said that had me swooning! But OOOO if you thought the lovely words he told Sloane were amazing, JUST WAIT UNTIL YOU READ THE DIRTY TALK HE STARTED SPOUTING TO HER! AHHHH I WAS LOWKEY HEATING UP OMG! (Sigh) I need to calm down, I’m just too excited just thinking about all the goodness that emanated from Jasper’s mouth! Jasper was a man of few words, but HE MADE THE WORDS COUNT!Through the middle of the story, lots of things were starting to come together like, Sloane blurting the truth of her feelings towards Jasper。 For Sloane to finally admit to Jasper that her feelings for him never went away, it was a big deal for Jasper to hear。 This man believed he lost his chance to be with the one woman he had always cared about, and then comes to find out that she never stopped having feelings for him?! To then add onto that, Jasper also admitted to Sloane that he also had feelings for Sloane! Lots of truth spilled between the two, and it added a bit of angst especially on Jasper’s part from the big reason why he kept it a secret from Sloane all these years。 Crazy to think that had they told each other of their feelings long ago, that maybe they could’ve been together a lot sooner, but maybe the way things played out benefited them the time to truly see they wanted each other more。 Although I would say it was more on Jasper’s part to finally realizing he wanted to take action in fully making Sloane his。 With so many things being out in the open, Sloane and Jasper had a lot on their minds respectively, but it didn’t take away from the sexual tension growing exponentially between。 An NHL hockey player and a Prima ballerina, YUP! IMMEDIATELY YES! This was such an amazing story。 Elsie did a fantastic job bringing Sloane and Jasper’s story to life。 Over the course of each book within the Chestnut Springs series, I’ve genuinely loved the messages embedded within each couple’s stories。 For instance, with the title of, “Powerless”, and how both Sloane and Jasper were able to reclaim parts of their lives, overcome their fears and trauma。 Plus the fact that Jasper felt powerless over Sloane, oh my goodness that man was head over heels in love! I also loved seeing all the other characters from the previous books, love that bunch so much! The found family and friendships in this series are some of my favorites, and I loved seeing more of that close connection present in this book, especially with the women involving Sloane and Winter。 Even the sprinkle of seeing Theo and Winter in this book sets it up perfectly for their book that’s next up! OMG! I loved the character growth that both Sloane and Jasper had, especially with Sloane putting herself first instead of appeasing others demands of her。 This story had a lot of heart, lots of swoon worthy moments courtesy of Jasper, and of course the steamiest spicy scenes that legitimately made my jaw drop… ahem… CRAWL TO ME! AHHHH! The ending and epilogues were oh so romantic, joyful, heartfelt, and I couldn’t help smiling。 Jasper didn’t have the easiest life, and struggled with his trauma, but through it all, he had the love of the Eaton’s, and Sloane constantly supporting him and giving him all their love no matter what。 With each book, I’ve grown to love these characters, and Jasper and Sloane are now part of that。 You can’t tell me, you didn’t love this story because, I sure did! 。。。more

there's also one comment he makes closer to the end to the ex that I loved) edge to them, while hers were just sad。Along with Sloane and Jasper's friendship/boiling feelings, the Eatons get some news that is terrifying。 So Jasper is forced to take time off hockey and Sloane is running away from her life temporarily because of her cancelled wedding, which means road trip with forced proximity。 The road trip really forced them to confront their feelings, open up, be vulnerable, and yeah, it provided a handy outlet for all the sexual tension to pop and these two to start getting steamy。 I was surprised given that Jasper has more of a bashful, quiet, reserved demeanor that he's pretty controlling and demanding in the bedroom。 And Sloane was there for it。 I saw a couple of reviews mention that this book didn't have as much angst or tension and my personal reading experience was the opposite。 This felt very angsty and tension-filled。 It did get repetitive at times because of them running over the same ground that was holding them back。 The characters stew sometimes when you just want them to use their words too。 But I loved the ending of this book。 There is a time where you question if it's all going to fall apart, but it doesn't。 I loved how Jasper steps up to the net (he's a hockey player so I'm trying to correlate here) and shows Sloane all his love and support, he needed to in a big way since he'd held back all that time。 I loved the epilogue, the last few chapters were just amazing。 Side character-wise, the prior books' couples are hilarious and sweet。 The texts at the start of some of the chapters continue in this book and they were some of the best parts of the story。 Willa kept asking Sloane about Jasper's D and it cracked me up。 Harvey is just *sigh*, I love that guy。 His main joke that he uses to tease Jasper and Sloane was also giggle inducing。 I'm giggling now just thinking about it。 There's also a bit of Summer's sister, Winter, in this story and her meeting with the hero of her book, which was also super funny。 Do I recommend this book? Yes and no, helpful right? I think some of my GR friends will not enjoy this story and some of them will。 I decided to just jump in and give it a go after reading a friend's review and I'm glad I did。 I wasn't going to read the next one in the series because the trope isn't one I like, but that hint at their dynamic that plays out in this story and the excerpt, plus the promise of more of those texts and sneak peeks of past couples, I might。 Trigger warnings: child abandonment, mention of the death of a sibling, anxiety rep 。。。more
