Summary

It felt absolutely incredible to jump back into Spensa's head and this book had so much action and so many loveable characters! (Per usual!) This was my least favorite in the series so far, but I feel like this book was necessary to touch on Spensa's character development! I strongly feel that Defiant is easily going to be the best in the series! The reviews of this book on audible were abysmal and much more accurate than goodreads。Well, this was a huge disappointment。 I genuinely liked the first two books。 I was expecting so much better than what we got with this one。I know it’s YA and therefore Sanderson made up the curse “scud”, but couldn’t he have made up a few more? Or have no cursing? If I had to hear “SCUD” or “SCUDDING” one more flipping time I thought I might lose my mind。 Every time someone said it, which was often, it pulled The reviews of this book on audible were abysmal and much more accurate than goodreads。Well, this was a huge disappointment。 I genuinely liked the first two books。 I was expecting so much better than what we got with this one。I know it’s YA and therefore Sanderson made up the curse “scud”, but couldn’t he have made up a few more? Or have no cursing? If I had to hear “SCUD” or “SCUDDING” one more flipping time I thought I might lose my mind。 Every time someone said it, which was often, it pulled me right out of the story。 Plus, all of the other species and the AI’s say it! I’d say it was lazy writing, but a lot of effort went into how many times the word was used。 It was mind numbingly irritating! The book is obvious filler and the story is boringly formulaic。 Spensa meets a new group of people, realizes they’re not all villains, then has to prove herself to gain their trust。 She teaches them how to dog fight and also proves she’s the greatest pilot EVER! This new group was the worst of the lot。 They were one dimensional and I couldn’t give one iota about what happened to them。 I haven’t read the novellas, so for me I haven’t seen her original friends for two entire books (except spirit Jorgen)。 It’s asking a lot of your readers to throw so many characters into a story and expect them to care about any of them。 M-bot became increasingly annoying and Spensa herself became a bore。 All the new world building was weak and haphazard。 I couldn’t get a clear picture of what any of it was supposed to really look like。 I don’t find the author to be great at descriptions (at least in this series) anyway。 I’m pretty sure Jorgen’s skin color changed from the first book。 I don’t care if he’s blue, but be consistent! Peg was described in such a way that all I could imagine was a hairless, bipedal bear。 Maybe that was his intention。Then theres the Delvers。 I LOVE Mass Effect。 Played every game, read all the books。 Immediately I thought the Delvers sounded like the Reapers。 I was disabused of this notion in this book。 Really they’re like Reapers if they were massively whiny, crybaby, wussies。 Every villain in this book seems to get some kind of redemption arc。 They’re not really all that bad or evil, they just had ______ happen and that’s why they want to eradicate entire species! Evil does exist and it’s okay for a villain to be pure evil。The few mentions of Satan as a hero figure were really off putting。 Especially since this is a YA book。 Can’t authors just leave religion out of it?! At least it wasn’t full of woke bs and that was a relief。I’ll read the next one (hopefully last) because the first two were so good。 Fingers crossed that the word “Scud” is drastically reduced and that we get back to the main characters。 。。。more

3。5 stars!Another fun Sanderson tale。Listened to this one on audiobook while working, a great idea that helped me go through many boring work-related chores。 great characters (especially Chet the explorer), even though the book could have been a bit shorter。 Waiting to see how the quartet wraps up。I'll read the last one as well。 3。5 stars!Another fun Sanderson tale。Listened to this one on audiobook while working, a great idea that helped me go through many boring work-related chores。 great characters (especially Chet the explorer), even though the book could have been a bit shorter。 Waiting to see how the quartet wraps up。I'll read the last one as well。 。。。more

Great characters and moments but no real sense of urgency in this book。 Felt like a repeat of the first 2 books but with lower stakes。 Still great tho。 That finale with mbot is 👌🏻👌🏻

I was really hoping for another multi-species adventure like book 2, and this book did not deliver that。 Despite not meeting my hopes and expectations, it was still a fairly satisfying continuation of the series。 After completing it, I was a little afraid that he might be ending it there, but I guess I have to wait a year for book 4。 Good thing Sanderson is fairly reliable in his publication pace。

Lots of growth for the main character in this book, setting her up for the final installment。 Another epic Sanderson ending。 Enjoyed learning more about the "Nowhere" and Spensa's adventures within。 Lots of growth for the main character in this book, setting her up for the final installment。 Another epic Sanderson ending。 Enjoyed learning more about the "Nowhere" and Spensa's adventures within。 。。。more

Book 3 of the Skyward series。 The first one was by far my favorite, but Sanderson continued to write interesting characters and even more interesting and unique locations for the characters to have adventures in。 I could see the setting from this book as an awesome setting for an RPG。 I'm looking forward to more from this series。 Book 3 of the Skyward series。 The first one was by far my favorite, but Sanderson continued to write interesting characters and even more interesting and unique locations for the characters to have adventures in。 I could see the setting from this book as an awesome setting for an RPG。 I'm looking forward to more from this series。 。。。more

This has been a great series and I have enjoyed each book。

I resonate with this! I really wanted to give this 4 stars because I found it a bit confusing at first but the last chapters were so intense。。。 The way Sanderson takes his sci-fi worldbuilding to a human, intimate dimension leaves me speechless every time。 Not to mention the solid structure, which is exemplary as always。 There is a warmth to these characters that I found only in Robin Hobb。 I genuinely care about all of them and somehow Sanderson is able to create a new cast of characters each t I resonate with this!

Book Review: Cytonic by Brandon Sanderson。。In the third book of the Skyward series, we follow Spensa as she enters the Nowhere with hopes on finding the answers that she seeks about who she is and what she can do。 Spensa soon realizes that her time in the Nowhere is like something right out of one of Gran Gran's stories and she gets to live out her explorer fantasies。 With M-Bot by her side and a few new friends, Spensa takes on the world of the delvers and goes right into the viper's nest in ho Book Review: Cytonic by Brandon Sanderson。。In the third book of the Skyward series, we follow Spensa as she enters the Nowhere with hopes on finding the answers that she seeks about who she is and what she can do。 Spensa soon realizes that her time in the Nowhere is like something right out of one of Gran Gran's stories and she gets to live out her explorer fantasies。 With M-Bot by her side and a few new friends, Spensa takes on the world of the delvers and goes right into the viper's nest in hopes of learning everything she needs to know to help her people survive。 Honestly, was not a big fan of this book。 I felt like it was one of those books that didn't do a ton with the plot, so it felt like it took ages to finish。 I loved watching Spensa come alive as one of her very one antagonists of her own story, but honestly this plot line didn't do too much for me。 Now don't get me wrong, there are some HUGE revelations in this book that help to explain more to the reader, but overall it was okay。 Hoping Defiant, book four, really helps close this series out on a high note。 。。。more

WHAT? This series STILL isn't done??Okay, I don't mind terribly。 I really enjoy these books。 This installment seemed to be a straight-forward quest story, with Spensa starting in the Nowhere, needing to get to the Exit。 She picks up a new, delightfully old-school-adventurer sidekick。。。 or two? I didn't really expect to find real twists in this tale, but there they were。 Maybe it won't be strictly necessary, but I'm getting the feeling I should probably go read the novellas before the fourth (las WHAT?
