Summary

This beautiful book explores the beloved writer's achievements as a storyteller, artist, and naturalist。

Beatrix Potter's universe of characters--Peter Rabbit, Squirrel Nutkin, Jemima Puddleduck--have delighted audiences for over a century。 A creative pioneer and determined entrepreneur, she combined scientific observation with imaginative storytelling to create some of the world's best-loved children's books。 This volume showcases Potter's charming charac-ters against the backdrop of her exquisite botanical drawings, humorous illustrated letters to friends, Lake District landscapes, and rarely seen photographs。

Beatrix Potter's endearingly hand-painted world of animals and gardens made her one of the most celebrated children's book authors of all time, yet this is but one facet of her creative life。 Drawn to the picturesque English countryside after a London childhood, Potter had a passion for nature that influenced her many achievements as a naturalist, artist, storyteller, and later in life as a fervent conservationist and "gentlewoman" farmer。 This book sheds light upon the connections between her art, entrepreneurial success, and legacy in preservation。

This is a stunning book that I enjoyed beginning to end。 I still treasure my Potter books from childhood (the ones by Beatrix not the ones about Harry) and have always admired her style。 She led a very interesting life, well documented in this book。 There are many illustrations from her journals, manuscripts and picture letters to her young penpals。 If you have enjoyed her children’s stories you may well love this book too。

This is a stunning book - published to accompany the exhibition Beatrix Potter: Drawn to Nature at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, which will run from February 2022 to January 2023。 Every page is beautiful。 The V&A Museum holds the largest collection of Beatrix Potter artworks in the world and, wow, are they put on fabulous display throughout the pages of this book。 The book is split into sections。 The first explores Potter’s home life (including her family’s artistic and natural histo This is a stunning book - published to accompany the exhibition Beatrix Potter: Drawn to Nature at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, which will run from February 2022 to January 2023。 Every page is beautiful。 The V&A Museum holds the largest collection of Beatrix Potter artworks in the world and, wow, are they put on fabulous display throughout the pages of this book。 The book is split into sections。 The first explores Potter’s home life (including her family’s artistic and natural history inclinations, annual travels and privileged situation - all of which greatly influenced her writing)。 The second looks at Potter’s almost-career as a scientific illustrator。 If she’d succeeded, would she have written her famous stories that are still loved today? The third section is my favourite, looking at Potter as a natural storyteller。 I especially liked the illustrated letters she wrote to children - through which she discovered her natural ability to tell stories。 The fourth part examines her passion for the Lake District and, finally, the last section of the book looks at the inspiration behind some of the now famous characters from her stories。 I’ve always found Beatrix Potter an interesting character - she was shy but yet so determined。 She had an insatiable curiosity about the world around her, a thirst for knowledge and a determination to escape the confines of the age and create a meaningful life for herself。 Most of all though, I admire her ability to see and convey the true beauty in nature。 This book was a rare thing - a gift。 It’s a rare thing when someone buys me a book and it makes the reading all the more special。 。。。more
