Summary

4。5/5 starsI thoroughly enjoyed Artemis。 It really makes me wonder why it got some bad reviews because this book was a lot of fun。 Artemis is the first and only city on the Moon where Jazz was raised since she was 6 years old。 Jazz is now a struggling porter sidelining as a smuggler to make ends meet。 When she is given an opportunity to make ridiculous amounts of money by doing just one sabotage job, she jumps at the chance and discovers she may have bitten off more than she can chew as she beco 4。5/5 starsI thoroughly enjoyed Artemis。 It really makes me wonder why it got some bad reviews because this book was a lot of fun。 Artemis is the first and only city on the Moon where Jazz was raised since she was 6 years old。 Jazz is now a struggling porter sidelining as a smuggler to make ends meet。 When she is given an opportunity to make ridiculous amounts of money by doing just one sabotage job, she jumps at the chance and discovers she may have bitten off more than she can chew as she becomes embroidered in a conspiracy for control of Artemis and the Moon’s industries。Jazz was a good protagonist with the wit and charm of Mark Watney (from The Martian) without actually being just his female counterpart。 Artemis is not as science heavy as either The Martian or Project Hail Mary (to its detriment actually because the detailed scientific explanations actually make both those stories better)。 I did like how the book turned into a fun caper towards the end。 。。。more

Kinda lost track of the science towards the end。 The story feels like something from a video game。

Another great book by Andy Weir。 So far its 3 for 3。 I really enjoy his humor and attention to detail。

Light read。 Very entertaining but not at the same level as his other two books。

A Real Page TurnerAndy wrote one of the most lovable protagonists I’ve ever read。 Jazz is sharp, both in mind and tongue, and she never misses a chance to cease a good opportunity, even at her own peril。 The capers are grand in scale, the stakes are high, oh, and did I mention it’s all going down ON THE MOON! Great story。

As a woman in science I was so ready for this book。 I specifically saved it for vacation when I had no obligations because I KNEW I would want to voraciously read it the way I did with the Martian and Project Hail Mary— two of my still favorite books。 This fell flat。 Jazz has no character depth beyond inappropriate jokes that aren’t even funny and a reputation as the bad girl with daddy issues。 The story kind of only talks about welding?? I really liked this! It was a fun heist with solid characters。 I appreciate that the lead was a lady, but there were a couple moments that popped out as “written by a guy”。 But she was likable and flawed overall。 The adventure itself was compelling and interesting。 The engineering was described well and believable。 Very satisfying read。 Will definitely read Andy Weir’s next project as this puts him into my “trusted author” category。

I really like Andy Weir and his style of writing。 It reads quickly, has lots of action and funny dialogue/characters。 I think he knows his stuff RE: space, engineering and technology but honestly I don't know and TBH I don't care。 I find his books loads of fun to read and can't wait to see what he comes up with next! PS - I liked The Martian and Project Hail Mary a bit better than this one but if you like either of those books you will like Artemis! Good characters and an interesting setting。

I plowed through this one, much as I did for The Martian。 Artemis has its cringey bits, but overall it was a fun read with solid tension and excellent world building。 Lots of interesting characters and the whole heist was good campy fun。

(read this during vacation, so I don't remember much) This is my least favorite of Andy Weir's, but it's still really good。 I really appreciate his ability to work with different types of characters, and I like how they turned out。 This lady was interesting, if a little off her rocker and definitely strange (sees crime scene, first reaction is to "NOPE" her way out of their asap)。 I liked this a lot, though I hesitate to recommend this to my peers to do the sheer amount of innuendos。 Oh boy。 She (read this during vacation, so I don't remember much) This is my least favorite of Andy Weir's, but it's still really good。 I really appreciate his ability to work with different types of characters, and I like how they turned out。 This lady was interesting, if a little off her rocker and definitely strange (sees crime scene, first reaction is to "NOPE" her way out of their asap)。 I liked this a lot, though I hesitate to recommend this to my peers to do the sheer amount of innuendos。 Oh boy。 She's fluent。 。。。more

Great audiobook to listen to in the car。

Fun anti-heroine who is smarter than everyone but emotionally dysfunctional。 The back and forth in time storytelling allowed me to enjoy the current day capers while bringing more depth to the characters。 Of course, being Weir, we get a great space setting。 This time on a moon settlement。

Great follow up to The Martian I loved the Martian, and Project Hail Mary。 Somehow I had missed Artemis, but after I so enjoyed Hail Mary I decided to catch up and finish。 It takes a while to get the premise established, but the second half is filled with great understandable science and a roller coaster ride I thoroughly enjoyed。 While very different from his other two books, this one is worth the read。 Loved this one as much as the other two, but in its own unique way。

I don’t really do science fiction, so this book was a bit out of my norm。 The main character is this young, edgy, Saudi Arabian girl。 She’s smart, funny, and a hustler。 She gets this opportunity to a make a whole lot of money, but what she thought would be a simple task ends up being more than she bargained for。If you loved the movie, “Martian” then you’ll like this book。 It’s eventful and the main character keeps it entertaining。 Now, if you don’t like books that use a lot of technical terms, t I don’t really do science fiction, so this book was a bit out of my norm。 The main character is this young, edgy, Saudi Arabian girl。 She’s smart, funny, and a hustler。 She gets this opportunity to a make a whole lot of money, but what she thought would be a simple task ends up being more than she bargained for。If you loved the movie, “Martian” then you’ll like this book。 It’s eventful and the main character keeps it entertaining。 Now, if you don’t like books that use a lot of technical terms, then you may not like this one。 The author spends a lot of time explaining the science behind this lunar city。 。。。more

I feel like with many science fiction novels, the premise is more interesting than the execution of the plot turns out to be。 I absolutely loved the author’s economic breakdown that followed the book, showing that Weir put a lot of thought into the world that he created。 In fact, it is this world building of life on the Moon that is the most interesting。 The book dabbles with Frontier narratives, having some of the common elements one would find in a western: deadly showdowns, lawlessness, antih I feel like with many science fiction novels, the premise is more interesting than the execution of the plot turns out to be。 I absolutely loved the author’s economic breakdown that followed the book, showing that Weir put a lot of thought into the world that he created。 In fact, it is this world building of life on the Moon that is the most interesting。 The book dabbles with Frontier narratives, having some of the common elements one would find in a western: deadly showdowns, lawlessness, antiheroism, darwinian impulses guiding all, and a belief in the destiny to dominate。 In this case, that domination takes the form of economics, which again, I thought was interesting and timely。 Now, for the bad: I have nothing against the author writing in the voice of an Arab woman, especially since there were times that this Moon Society seems quite a bit like Dubai to me。 However, I do think that this book would have benefited if it were from the third person perspective, because being inside the head of the protagonist came with certain disadvantages, namely that she sounds like a man。 There's just something inauthentic about her voice。 And I have no problem suspending disbelief a few times, but there were so many strange conversations and her reactions seemed really off to the point that I cringed。 I also think that the gravity of the second half of the novel would have worked a lot better from a third-person perspective。 As a matter of fact, I kind of wouldn't even mind if the book was told in the letters between Jazz and Kelvin。 The voice in those seemed a lot more authentic and alive than Jazz’s voice。 I'm also not so sure about the plot twists at the end, but I can see that this is a fast-paced romp that is meant to be fun, which takes me to my final point。 This is a book that almost knows it will get adapted into film。 There is something cinematic about it, but in that Hollywood Way where you can envision great special effects and hope that some talented actor can portray Jazz better than Weir does。 。。。more
