This book was the toughest book to get through， yet probably the best one yet。 Some of it I felt like was dragged out， probably could’ve been written in 700 pages but set up a great premise for the rest of the series。

I sort of want to give this 3。5 stars， but I’m rounding up because the intricate symbolism， the tragedy and irony and regret and the thoughtful exploration of grief and PTSD are all just beautiful。（This is the first book in the series that I’m reading for the first time。 Books 1-4 were re-reads for me but i never made it past book 4 in the early 2000s。）That being said， Caps-Lock Harry isn’t my favorite （although I understand that his mental/emotional state and his hormones make him shouty）; a lo I sort of want to give this 3。5 stars， but I’m rounding up because the intricate symbolism， the tragedy and irony and regret and the thoughtful exploration of grief and PTSD are all just beautiful。（This is the first book in the series that I’m reading for the first time。 Books 1-4 were re-reads for me but i never made it past book 4 in the early 2000s。）That being said， Caps-Lock Harry isn’t my favorite （although I understand that his mental/emotional state and his hormones make him shouty）; a lot of the characters were sort of idiots （Ahem HAGRID）; Umbridge was too much for me; plot holes plot holes; and， the biggest flaw: the book overall is just way， WAY too long。 I think I would have tolerated the length better if I had read it on my own， because I’m comfortable with skimming。 But I read it out loud with my son， so there was no going around the excessive length。 It felt like we spent weeks and weeks on this one。I did love the last few chapters， when a lot of the running threads all came together: The mysterious thestrals， who can take you anywhere if you see them and trust them; Hermione always being the most level-headed; the “caste”/“race” fountain falling apart; Dumbledore and Voldemort meeting and battling; the Black cousins’ hatred for each other; Dumbledore cracking and showing emotion; Harry allowing Luna to comfort him in his grief; Nearly Headless Nick’s reluctant explanation of why some people become ghosts; the love and solidarity that the Order showed for Harry in front of the Dursleys; Sybill Trelawney’s connection to Harry; the magnificence of Neville coming into his own; and the tragic missed opportunity of Sirius’s two-way mirror。I’m glad I read it， but although I’m an avid re-reader， I don’t think I’ll ever put myself through this one again。 。。。more

So this was definitely a lengthy read。 I liked the plot a lot， just as I do the other books in the series thus far。 However， I felt like there was no reason for it to be as long as it was。 Some parts felt like a drag。 But overall， I did enjoy this book！

🤯 I think this book could easily have been shrunk down to less than 900 pages with removing some of the details but this book was action from the beginning unlike the previous 4。 It took a lot longer to read but was worth the read。

I remember buying this book to share with my mum and sister when it came out。 They both got to read it first and I had to wait。。。I got so impatient that I went out and bought a second copy 😂 I finished this one the quickest out of all the books and especially loved the depth of the adventures。 It’s probably this reason why it’s my least favourite of all the movies。 I was devastated that it had cut pretty much all of my favourite parts out。 Dobby is by far one of my favourite characters and altho I remember buying this book to share with my mum and sister when it came out。 They both got to read it first and I had to wait。。。I got so impatient that I went out and bought a second copy 😂 I finished this one the quickest out of all the books and especially loved the depth of the adventures。 It’s probably this reason why it’s my least favourite of all the movies。 I was devastated that it had cut pretty much all of my favourite parts out。 Dobby is by far one of my favourite characters and although he makes no appearance in the movie， I’m extremely grateful to be able to read and re read this book to get my fix。I’m now going on 5 times 😂 。。。more
