Summary

Hidden in your body is a set of thirty-five divine objects that represent aspects of God; think of them as a vocabulary to describe your soul。 They can help you explore your own perfect nature。 With roots in Platonic philosophy and Sufi metaphysics, these eternal body-forms were discovered forty years ago and are only now being shared with the world。 They don't just provide knowledge and even wisdom; they also grant immediate and sustained relief from everyday suffering。 Spiritual coach and writer Neal Allen describes the discovery, the body-forms themselves, and gives step-by-step instructions for encountering them yourself。 His wife, the novelist and memoirist Anne Lamott, contributes a sweet foreword that chronicles her encounter with a body-form on their first date。

This book is very heady。 Some chapters just whizzed right over my inner satellite dish。 Others, especially the ones with stories, made sense。 There's a niche for this type of book, a special seeker perhaps。 It wasn't me, but that's okay。 This book is very heady。 Some chapters just whizzed right over my inner satellite dish。 Others, especially the ones with stories, made sense。 There's a niche for this type of book, a special seeker perhaps。 It wasn't me, but that's okay。 。。。more

Ummmm。。 I consider myself a fairly enlightened person yet I have no idea what the author is hypothesizing here。 I believe that he himself has had the experiences he describes。 But positing that these are universal “forms” is a stretch for me。 Will keep you posted。

I decided to read Shapes of Truth because I want to build a spiritual practice for myself and also deepen my understanding of the spiritual side。。 The title seemed intriguing and I expected to learn something insightful。 However, most of the ideas seemed quite difficult for me to comprehend and just flew over my head。 I loved the premise of associating feelings with colours and textures, but it was extremely difficult for me to grasp what the author had written。 The book mentions all religions a I decided to read Shapes of Truth because I want to build a spiritual practice for myself and also deepen my understanding of the spiritual side。。 The title seemed intriguing and I expected to learn something insightful。 However, most of the ideas seemed quite difficult for me to comprehend and just flew over my head。 I loved the premise of associating feelings with colours and textures, but it was extremely difficult for me to grasp what the author had written。 The book mentions all religions and as such is not devoted to a particular religious sect。 I believe this book is meant for those who are advanced learners of the spiritual world。 For beginners like me, this is a very difficult book to relate to and understand。 Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for providing a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review。 。。。more

I picked up Shapes of Truth because I’d seen a coaching method recently that had very similar roots of visualizing our feelings inside us。 Plus, I’ve read and enjoyed Anne Lamott and wanted to read her foreword。It’s unique to think of feelings being associated with colors and textures… easier to comprehend with children’s art than adult development。 So many of us have been taught to resist feelings…。 Get over it。 Keep on keepin’ on。 Apologizing for crying in front of others, etc。 This book expla I picked up Shapes of Truth because I’d seen a coaching method recently that had very similar roots of visualizing our feelings inside us。 Plus, I’ve read and enjoyed Anne Lamott and wanted to read her foreword。It’s unique to think of feelings being associated with colors and textures… easier to comprehend with children’s art than adult development。 So many of us have been taught to resist feelings…。 Get over it。 Keep on keepin’ on。 Apologizing for crying in front of others, etc。 This book explains a great tool to have in any personal growth toolbox。 The method is a challenge to understand on paper though。 I’ve seen it in action so I understand the deep power it can have。 It takes some time and patience but the results appeared to be transforming for the client。While God is in the book title, note that it’s more a universalist God。 There are mentions of many religions throughout the book。It may interest some readers that foundation of the book was attributed to Allen’s work with Hameed Ali, who writes under the pen name A。 H。 Almaas。 I enjoyed the first half of the book but found myself slowing down toward the end, wondering if it was almost done yet every time I picked it up。 (There was a warning in the beginning to maybe just pick a handful that resonate to start with, but I was curious to read the whole book。)This could be a great book to have in print as a quick reference when working with clients/patients。Thank you to NetGalley and Pearl Publications for this ACR。 。。。more
