I love these authors。 Each and everyone has written powerful novels that I couldn't put down。 This collection of stories did not disappoint。 They were beautiful, fun, touching, magical love stories taking place during a Blackout in NYC! The most magical part is to see six powerhouse women authors work together to empower young people, especially of color, to see the beauty of love! It was a refreshing, uplifting read! I can't recommend this one enough! 6 authors came together to write connected stories of young people falling in and out of love on a hot summer night in NYC during a blackout。 These stories all came together really nicely while still being unique。 My favorite story was Mask Off by Nic Stone。 If I had one complaint about this book it would be that I wish we had more time with Jacorey “JJ” Harding Jr。 and Tremaine Wright。

What a cool concept! Six incredible authors collaborating on a collection of interconnected short stories that all take place during a city-wide blackout? Yes, please! The snippets of stories were all great, and I love how each intertwined in their own way。 Some stories get more page time for sure, and I did want to know more about some of the stories and characters。 Regardless, all of the stories are heartwarming and revolve around similar themes in their own unique ways。 Definitely, a must-read What a cool concept! Absolutely adorable! We follow along several different teens through a city wide blackout on NYC。 Some are dealing with breakups, or trying to talk to their crush, or maybe just meeting for the first time。 I love how to stories wove and each began and ending in a flawless way。 This is a rockstar cast of authors and it didn’t disappoint。 It gave me all the happy feels and was a perfect summer read。 I would love to continue all the characters’ stories but alas it had to end。 The audiobook producti Absolutely adorable! This was pretty much what I expected it to be, which is to say I’m definitely not disappointed。 I loved reading these short stories that were all loosely connected through people who knew each other in New York, a city filled with endless possibilities with the lights on and even more when they’re off。I like that each story had its own trope, but still inevitably had characters that felt more vulnerable in the darkness of the city as they went through the experience and tried to make the best of This was pretty much what I expected it to be, which is to say I’m definitely not disappointed。 I loved reading these short stories that were all loosely connected through people who knew each other in New York, a city filled with endless possibilities with the lights on and even more when they’re off。I like that each story had its own trope, but still inevitably had characters that felt more vulnerable in the darkness of the city as they went through the experience and tried to make the best of it。Here’s my ranking:Seymour and GraceNo Sleep Till BrooklynAll the Great Love Stories 。 。 。 and DustMask OffMade to FitThe Long WalkI especially liked the last two stories in the book—Seymour and Grace by Nicola Yoon and No Sleep Till Brooklyn by Angie Thomas。Anthologies don’t always capture me completely, so I’m not surprised this isn’t a new favorite, but I’d still recommend it to people for sure!! 。。。more

Such a heartwarming anthology concept from some of the biggest names in YA right now。 It was made even sweeter by all the invisible strings that connect each story together。 My favorites were: Mask Off by Nic Stone, All the Great Love Stories。。。 And Dust by Dhonielle Clayton, and Seymour and Grace by Nicola Yoon。

Really enjoyed this! Obviously Angie Thomas is an auto-buy author for me and I was so excited to read something new from her, but I enjoyed all of the other stories and how they were woven together。

First I must admit I haven’t read any anthologies before so this was a first for me。 The idea for the plot/individual stories was great and I think it worked well to give black girls the centre stage with their own love stories。 So for that it hits the nail on the head。Personally I found the switch between writers challenging and inconsistent and the stories started to feel a bit repetitive。 It might be that anthologies aren’t for me because I really wanted to enjoy this one。

I loved this YA love story compilation that all tied together。 It was sweet, it was funny and I was totally invested in these stories!!! Feel good, modern, love stories for the win。

Love, love, love's in the air, even though light isn't。 In this anthology about love and self in a New York City blackout, six heavyweights in YA fiction hammer stories, often neglected or displaced, regarding young black love and identifying one's self in a world determined to pigeon-hole them。Tiffany D。 Jackson, writer of Monday's Not Coming, presents "The Long Walk" and frames the entire book, while giving readers episodes in-between the rest of the author's tales。 As I read, anticipation for Love, love, love's in the air, even though light isn't。 In this anthology about love and self in a New York City blackout, six heavyweights in YA fiction hammer stories, often neglected or displaced, regarding young black love and identifying one's self in a world determined to pigeon-hole them。Tiffany D。 Jackson, writer of Monday's Not Coming, presents "The Long Walk" and frames the entire book, while giving readers episodes in-between the rest of the author's tales。 As I read, anticipation for the next moment brought a smile to my face noting the continuing saga of Kareem and Tammi。 While Jackson typically writes thrillers or heart-grippers, this one grips the heart in a sweet way。 It's sweet and well-paced, leaving you hungry for the next episode。 I'm sorry, Ms。 Jackson, but I'm going to need more stories like this, too (though, the thrillers still hit the right spot)。 4/5The following story, "Mask Off" by Nic Stone, author of Dear Martin, introduces a boy's discovery about who and how to love。 It's earnest, heartwarming, and honest about how society approaches boys, sports, and bisexuality/homosexuality。 I must say that I'm new to Stone, as she primarily writes with a boy's perspective。 She nails a home-run with this story and I look forward to reading her backlist。 It's my favorite tale。 4。5/5The one thing about anthologies you can always count on is the inclusion of a weaker story。 Unfortunately, Ashley Woodfolk, author of The Beauty That Remains, writes one called "Made to Fit" and well, her placement fits。 As a queer reader, I yearn for stories focusing on queer women without pain or trauma centered, and while this story excludes those aspects, it failed to keep my attention。 I think the problem can be found in too much backstory and focus on peripheral characters。 Twenty pages in and I knew more about other people than the two protagonists。 Once the story actually starts, lukewarm's a fair description。 2。5/5 (Please read the story as your view may vary!)Thankfully, Dhonielle Clayton, author of The Belles, "All the Great Love Stories。。。and Dust" set me back on the right path onward。 She creates a sweet story about friendship, finding the greatest love story, and possibly making one of your own。 Plus, the story's set in a library。 Win-win。 4/5Angie Thomas, author of The Hate U Give, offers "No Sleep Til Brooklyn" offers a story about a love triangle (Hello! Where's the love triangle for black kids?)。 The story centers around kids touring NYC from Mississippi as they discover that love may not include what they need at the time they need it。 It's cute fare。 But when put against the rest of the stories, it's feels a bit saccharine, and that's okay。 Black kids deserve saccharine tales too。 3。5/5Finally, the anthology ends with a lovely tale from Nicola Yoon, The sun is also a star, called "Seymour and Grace"。 What I love about Yoon is her subtle guide into her characters。 She does not hit you hard with characterization, but the tickles, here and there, wrap you in comfort and sweetness。 The romance potential is not blatant in this story, it's latent。 You want more。 Maybe she'll write a book on this pair。 Ms。 Yoon, write a story on these two。 No pressure。 4。5/5Please cop this anthology! It's lovely in its exploration of young black love and the "maybes" found in its wake。 Oh, and the hardcover's design is smashing! 4/5 。。。more

This was a book full of Black love and joy, and it was much needed。 My favorites were definitely the two queer stories written by Nic Stone and Ashley Woodfolk, respectively, I will definitely be picking up more from them。 I only really read LGBTQ romance when I read romance so I'm not surprised that I didn't like the other stories as much; I did still like Nicola Yoon's story a lot。 Tiffany D。 Jackson's and Angie Thomas' were alright, though I thought they were dragging a bit (especially the fo This was a book full of Black love and joy, and it was much needed。 My favorites were definitely the two queer stories written by Nic Stone and Ashley Woodfolk, respectively, I will definitely be picking up more from them。 I only really read LGBTQ romance when I read romance so I'm not surprised that I didn't like the other stories as much; I did still like Nicola Yoon's story a lot。 Tiffany D。 Jackson's and Angie Thomas' were alright, though I thought they were dragging a bit (especially the former which was divided into five acts) and I felt that the characters could have been more fleshed out。 My least favorite was Dhonielle Clayton's which was a bit too cheesy for me without much substance。 Overall, a great and much needed short story collection with some stories better than others。 。。。more

Anthologies are tricky because it's rare that you like every story。 I was pleasantly surprised when I liked all the stories in this one and I think what helped with that was the format。 This read more like a novel to me because the stories all beautifully intertwine together and all the characters end up at the same place in the end。 I think this would make a wonderful movie! Wow! That pretty much sums up the amazing collaboration from some of todays heavy hitters in the YA game! I'll admit, I was doubtful if such strong artist could smoothly pull off one story, and one book, and I am happy to report it was all so very cohesively done! I loved this book!! The authors names alone should draw your interest in this book, but the way they brought together and intertwined their stories is perfection! I loved meeting all of these characters and seeing how their stories unfolded。 Read it!
