Summary

Rob Halford is the legendary frontman of Judas Priest, one of the most successful heavy metal bands of all time。

Known as "The Metal God" by his devoted, global fan base, Rob Halford has always subverted the norm, and Confess will offer readers a compelling and honest look at the struggles he has faced with addiction and his sexuality as well as exploring his music and his many brushes with controversy。

There have been few vocalists in the history of heavy metal whose singing style has been as influential and instantly recognizable as Halford's。 Confess, published to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Judas Priest -- and described by Halford himself as "exciting, fun, disturbing, and terrifying" -- will celebrate five decades of the guts and glory of rock-n-roll。

This is an absolutely delightful book。 I couldn't put it down and read the whole thing in less than 1。5 days。 Halford's writing style is refreshing and enthusiastic。 The book is funny, silly, informative, poignant, bittersweet, sometimes tragic, but ultimately uplifting。 It's a great look at the birth of both Judas Priest and the British heavy metal scene, as well as the struggles of a gay man who felt he had no choice but to remain closeted for a substantial part of his life in order to protect This is an absolutely delightful book。 I couldn't put it down and read the whole thing in less than 1。5 days。 Halford's writing style is refreshing and enthusiastic。 The book is funny, silly, informative, poignant, bittersweet, sometimes tragic, but ultimately uplifting。 It's a great look at the birth of both Judas Priest and the British heavy metal scene, as well as the struggles of a gay man who felt he had no choice but to remain closeted for a substantial part of his life in order to protect the band and music he loves。 。。。more

I went through this book really quickly, it was completely captivating and absolutely hilarious。 At the same time, its a poignant story of how crushing it is to live life in the closet。

Hail the Metal GodSuperb story telling and blunt honesty from a true pioneer and icon of the heavy metal world! Rob Halford, either wittingly or unwittingly, endears himself to the reader with his openness and oftentimes self-deprecating look at his lifelong adventures in the world of rock and metal。 Highly recommended。

This felt like the most honest autobiography I have read。 I got the sense that Rob kept so much hidden for so long that you can almost feel the sense of relief coming through the pages。 I was interested in the stories of his early years and how he got into music。 The stories of his interactions with other rock heroes were highlights, as well as the inner workings and relationships within Judas Priest。 With that said, this was primarily the story of a gay man at a time and in a position that bein This felt like the most honest autobiography I have read。 I got the sense that Rob kept so much hidden for so long that you can almost feel the sense of relief coming through the pages。 I was interested in the stories of his early years and how he got into music。 The stories of his interactions with other rock heroes were highlights, as well as the inner workings and relationships within Judas Priest。 With that said, this was primarily the story of a gay man at a time and in a position that being an openly gay man did not seem to be an option。 The combination of his no-nonsense, no-whining, get it done, working class attitude while struggling to live his authentic life was both sad and hard to imagine。 I hope more stories like this make it easier for more people who happen to be attracted to members of their own sex, to not be defined by or suffer biases based on that attraction。I truly appreciate his honesty and enjoyed the book very much。 。。。more

Full of pretty amazing stories, but I think maybe it's a bit too light on "professional" info, such as voice talk。 I think there's literally no talk about how he practices singing or if there was any training。The rest is a very personal experience in general, but of course with so many years to talk about it gets a bit washed out at points。Highly entertaining, though。 Full of pretty amazing stories, but I think maybe it's a bit too light on "professional" info, such as voice talk。 I think there's literally no talk about how he practices singing or if there was any training。The rest is a very personal experience in general, but of course with so many years to talk about it gets a bit washed out at points。Highly entertaining, though。 。。。more

Very enjoyable, I've always liked Judas Priest, and this book gave me more appreciation for the band and for Rob as an individual。 I really liked the fact that Rob doesn't hold back on his words when criticizing himself or even others。 Very enjoyable, I've always liked Judas Priest, and this book gave me more appreciation for the band and for Rob as an individual。 I really liked the fact that Rob doesn't hold back on his words when criticizing himself or even others。 。。。more

After K。K。 Downing's bio, I decided to instantly pick up this one, and some two days later, here I am。 To me, this read in one breath, and well, it has something signature of Halford in it。 I mean, I always found his bodily appearance on stage somewhat odd, but of course, that doesn't negate that he has one of the best rock and metal voices ever and is able to deliver the goods - this autobiography is something similar, from start to end it is a great read, and just like it tells the stories of After K。K。 Downing's bio, I decided to instantly pick up this one, and some two days later, here I am。 To me, this read in one breath, and well, it has something signature of Halford in it。 I mean, I always found his bodily appearance on stage somewhat odd, but of course, that doesn't negate that he has one of the best rock and metal voices ever and is able to deliver the goods - this autobiography is something similar, from start to end it is a great read, and just like it tells the stories of before, during, out and beyond Judas Priest from clearly a different personality, I can't help that sometimes it feels a little more distant than K。K's in the sense that at places (especially as far as the recent history and the time out of the band) it feels a bit like something that in the first place should be said in order for everything to feel right and no suspicions with regard to the inner tension between Downing and Priest's management to arise。 But I am not sure if it's really to be taken as more than a negligible flaw just like that two stories seem to be narrated in a nearly identical way as in the K。K。 biography。 Nothing else feels in any way wrong (OK, there are a few cringe stories, but I can't think to regard those as a flaw or anything), though all the talk about the personal and intimate things, including Rob's years of closet homosexuality, his desperate struggle to align it with a rock star life, find ways to make contact with the gay scene / culture and all the different forces, pressures and propulsions for him to eventually come out is fairly unique。 It's rather surprising how in some way, a lot of this seemed to be really kept away from the remaining band members and management, and how K。K's account seemed to somehow turn a bit of a blind eye on this, even though, obviously even in a band running effectively for decades, you might want to have a bit of privacy for yourself and not go too much into the others' one, even if it feels to me a bit surprising that when creative and sensitive artists collaborate for so long, how it would not be like immediately noticing something is not right。。。?In any case, these are obviously just my own perplexed thoughts and not anything too burdensome for one not to enjoy the book, or for not recommending it to anyone interested in Halford, Priest, rock and metal history / biographies; nor do I see that as discouraging anyone including myself from possibly digging deeper into tracking further stories and interviews from the past in order to clear out some of the blank spaces that a summing of a career and lives spanning decades in a few hundred pages necessarily leaves open。 。。。more

I'm almost always slightly disappointed with musician autobiographies, that was not the case with this one。 If you've had even a passing interest in Priest you will love this book, actually if you've never even heard of them you'll probably love it。 Although I devoured all of Priest's earlier stuff when it first came out, for a variety of reasons I never listened to anything by them or Rob Halford after Screaming for Vengeance, boy have I been missing out。 I decided to stop reading at the first I'm almost always slightly disappointed with musician autobiographies, that was not the case with this one。 If you've had even a passing interest in Priest you will love this book, actually if you've never even heard of them you'll probably love it。 Although I devoured all of Priest's earlier stuff when it first came out, for a variety of reasons I never listened to anything by them or Rob Halford after Screaming for Vengeance, boy have I been missing out。 I decided to stop reading at the first mention of an album and go and listen to it before picking the book back up, and I highly recommend that approach。 I've both discovered, and rediscovered some amazing music。 Jesus f***ing Christ how the hell have I not been listening to Painkiller or Halford's Resurrection all these years?? I could write an essay on this book。 There is definitely alot to talk about。 First off if homo erotica stories is not youre thing do not bother w/ this one。 Cudos to halford for being brave enough to come out。 He actually did alot for the gay community even by keeping it a secret for so long。 I once knew a lifetime metal fan who when halford came out even said that if anyone could get away w/ it it was rob。 This is certainly one hell of a career though & i feel for the sexual frustration which i I could write an essay on this book。 There is definitely alot to talk about。 First off if homo erotica stories is not youre thing do not bother w/ this one。 Cudos to halford for being brave enough to come out。 He actually did alot for the gay community even by keeping it a secret for so long。 I once knew a lifetime metal fan who when halford came out even said that if anyone could get away w/ it it was rob。 This is certainly one hell of a career though & i feel for the sexual frustration which is no laughing matter。 It really will make you want punch every wall you see after so long。 Halford also stood up for not just heavy metal but art as a whole as like ozzy faced horrible accusations while in melancholic circumstances。 The truth is though that art is meant to empower & remind those whoever they are that they are not alone。 This is a must read for any metal fan。 The story of they guy who walked out the stall w/ a judas priest shirt to become a lifelong fan says alot。 Halford obviously cares about his band & fans alike。 Highly recommend。 。。。more

:) 。。。more
