Summary

Charlie is a freshman。

And while he's not the biggest geek in the school, he is by no means popular。 Shy, introspective, intelligent beyond his years yet socially awkward, he is a wallflower, caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it。

Charlie is attempting to navigate his way through uncharted territory: the world of first dates and mix tapes, family dramas and new friends; the world of sex, drugs, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, when all one requires is that perfect song on that perfect drive to feel infinite。 But he can't stay on the sideline forever。 Standing on the fringes of life offers a unique perspective。 But there comes a time to see what it looks like from the dance floor。

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a deeply affecting coming-of-age story that will spirit you back to those wild and poignant roller-coaster days known as growing up。

one of the most hard hitting books on depression and love and adolescence。 i know it is corny to love this book with such a deep passion because it’s popular and “cant be that good”。 but once u read it your outlook on life and high school will never be the same。

I should've read this in high school。 Chbosky does such an excellent job of capturing the voice of an intelligent and growing young person。 I see why this was a "cult classic"。 Also Chbosky's main credits are screenwriting credits? That makes sense to me。 Will be gifting to my own kids before high school, I feel like it's an essential read。 I should've read this in high school。 Chbosky does such an excellent job of capturing the voice of an intelligent and growing young person。 I see why this was a "cult classic"。 Also Chbosky's main credits are screenwriting credits? I read this book years ago and reread now because Tom recommended it😁Wanting to evoke memories of year 10 English, I went onto its Sparknotes page and spoiled the plot for myself literally within 0。5 seconds。 This is absolutely not Stephen’s fault though! so 5 stars for him。 I've seen quite a few angry reviews that complain about the writing style but I feel that they should just let Charlie live, he's been through a lot。 Potentially an unrealistic part is how his awkward personality in the lett I read this book years ago and reread now because Tom recommended it😁Wanting to evoke memories of year 10 English, I went onto its Sparknotes page and spoiled the plot for myself literally within 0。5 seconds。 This is absolutely not Stephen’s fault though! so 5 stars for him。 I've seen quite a few angry reviews that complain about the writing style but I feel that they should just let Charlie live, he's been through a lot。 Potentially an unrealistic part is how his awkward personality in the letters allowed for two separate girls to like him。 。。。more

This is one of my favorite books。 It really resonated with me and I just related to Charlie so much。 I loved the writing style and I enjoyed how it was with the diary entrees。 I love books like that。 It was just so comforting。 It makes you feel like you aren’t alone。 It’s an easy read as well as a short read。 I recommend it if you feel lonely or struggle with depression or anxiety。 It’s very comforting and it makes you feel like you aren’t alone, like I said above。 Wonderful read。

Great book。 I'm sure if I'd read it when I was 15 it would have been my favourite book; but even at 21, I can still admire the emotion and beauty of this story。 Definitely worth reading and re-reading Great book。 I'm sure if I'd read it when I was 15 it would have been my favourite book; but even at 21, I can still admire the emotion and beauty of this story。 Definitely worth reading and re-reading 。。。more

I watched the film first and really enjoyed it, I don’t know if that changed my experience with reading the book or not but it may be something to note。 I, for one, adore this book。 I read it ever so quickly; I loved it too much to put it down。 The writing style, I loved。 The characters, I loved。 The storyline, I loved。 Charlie, I love。

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky is an epistolary novel, where the narrator is a young introvert boy named Charlie。 The story revolves around series of letters written by Charlie to an anonymous person mentioning his experiences。 Though shy and sensitive in nature, Charlie is an intelligent boy with unconventional thinking capabilities。 His first letters starts with Charlie mentioning about suicide of his Middle School’s friend and death of his favorite aunt Helen and how these The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky is an epistolary novel, where the narrator is a young introvert boy named Charlie。 The story revolves around series of letters written by Charlie to an anonymous person mentioning his experiences。 Though shy and sensitive in nature, Charlie is an intelligent boy with unconventional thinking capabilities。 His first letters starts with Charlie mentioning about suicide of his Middle School’s friend and death of his favorite aunt Helen and how these tragic incidents have took toll in his life。 After I finished reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, I tried to put my finger on what makes this book special。 It wasn’t the great quotes or the characters, but how poignant this book is。 What makes me love The Perks of Being a Wallflower is how real the emotions in this book feel。 A lot of the things that happened to Charlie have never happened to me, but while reading this book it felt as if they had。 。。。more

This book was interesting but was written in a very dull way。 It is always the same thing, he goes to a party, people are smoking or drinking, someone gets raped。

i received this book for my birthday when i was 13, i then read the book when i was 14, 16, 17, 19 and now at 21。 i still cry at all the same moments, i still see myself in the same characters and the book has always been just as good since the first time i read it, if not better。 it truly has made a lasting impression on myself in a multitude of ways and i feel really lucky i read it for the first time when i did。

At first, it was hard for me to get into the story because I thought the voice of Charlie was extremely immature for a high school student despite being so well read。 However, after I got used to it, it made me really emotional thinking of a child struggling this much and how it made it that much more real and depressing。 How this kid really needs someone to tell him he’s special or loved。 Definitely depressed me, I wouldn’t read this if you are in a bad place emotionally。 I am so happy his fami At first, it was hard for me to get into the story because I thought the voice of Charlie was extremely immature for a high school student despite being so well read。 However, after I got used to it, it made me really emotional thinking of a child struggling this much and how it made it that much more real and depressing。 How this kid really needs someone to tell him he’s special or loved。 Definitely depressed me, I wouldn’t read this if you are in a bad place emotionally。 I am so happy his family was always willing to get him help。 This story will definitely naked you feel something which I loved。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 One of the worst books I have ever read in my entire life。 I have multiple reasons why。 First, let's talk about Charlie。 Yes, I know he was exploited and traumatized as a child and then again when his best friend died and this book is supposed to represent his journey back to reality after all that happened。 I understand that。 My issue is that people are deciding that his response of withdrawal and resulting loneliness is something to be romanticized and even admired。 I used to be able to relate One of the worst books I have ever read in my entire life。 I have multiple reasons why。 First, let's talk about Charlie。 Yes, I know he was exploited and traumatized as a child and then again when his best friend died and this book is supposed to represent his journey back to reality after all that happened。 I understand that。 My issue is that people are deciding that his response of withdrawal and resulting loneliness is something to be romanticized and even admired。 I used to be able to relate to that "wallflower" feeling more in early high school, but as I would say to my younger self: have a little self respect。 It's not healthy, it's not romantic, it is keeping you from making choices and relationships that will actually make you happy。 Charlie is a doormat。 He does nothing to stop bad things from happening to him, even when he can do something。 He didn't leave the room when that couple at the party came in, he didn't tell Patrick not to kiss him when he was drunk。 When he could put himself out there and be a good friend for real, he chooses not to be honest with his friends for fear that he will mess something up。 I understand his fear since they were his only friends, but I completely agree with everything Sam told him on pages 200-201。 A good friend doesn't just support every choice you make if it is unhealthy。 He didn't tell Mary Elizabeth that he didn't really like her, but let her believe that she did and made himself annoyed and uncomfortable until he had to tell the truth。 That was cruel and selfish of him。 He thought nothing about how she felt, he only wanted to be liked by everyone。 And what is up with this chill drug culture? He tries acid and smoking because his friends told him to even though he didn't really want anything to do with it, and ends up using it as a coping mechanism and is slightly addicted to nicotine by the end of the book。 It seems like this whole book is sort of an illustration on the result of terrible parenting。 Who just doesn't even try to discourage their kids from drugs or promiscuity? Anyone ever heard of teen pregnancy or STDs or addictions or overdose?? Maybe it's just me but this looks like a big "what not to do in all these situations and why" book。 。。。more

This book name lots of serious topics like mental illness, sexual abuse, suicide and so on but just on surface。 This book is dark but not that much meaningful。 Most of the characters are not loveable at all according Charlie himself。 And it definitely has nothing to do with teenage period。 The movie is much better, at least there are less meaningless and unexplained crying (I'm talking about Charlie) This book name lots of serious topics like mental illness, sexual abuse, suicide and so on but just on surface。 This book is dark but not that much meaningful。 Most of the characters are not loveable at all according Charlie himself。 And it definitely has nothing to do with teenage period。 The movie is much better, at least there are less meaningless and unexplained crying (I'm talking about Charlie) 。。。more

Charlie has a way of writing about things, no matter how joyful or horrible, that is so innocent yet matter-of-fact that I find very special and endearing。 I relate to Charlie a whole lot, and the fact that the book is about beginnings and endings was especially applicable to me as a last-quarter senior。 I'm carrying with me the messages about taking action and "participating"。 I was very caught off guard by the twist about Aunt Helen, it was so tragic that this woman who's memory he had been cl Charlie has a way of writing about things, no matter how joyful or horrible, that is so innocent yet matter-of-fact that I find very special and endearing。 I relate to Charlie a whole lot, and the fact that the book is about beginnings and endings was especially applicable to me as a last-quarter senior。 I'm carrying with me the messages about taking action and "participating"。 I was very caught off guard by the twist about Aunt Helen, it was so tragic that this woman who's memory he had been clinging to for the whole book turned out to be an abuser。 What a beautiful, personal, painful, sweet, unique book。 I think every teenage should be required to read it at the beginning of freshman year and the end of senior year。 The Perks of Being a Wallflower will always represent the time in my life when I read it, during COVID senior year, a time of wasted youth, uncertainty, but also hope。 It has a special place in my heart。**Favorite Quotes**- So this is my life。 And I want you to know that I am both happy and sad and I'm still trying to figure out how that can be。- "Do you always think this much, Charlie?"
