Summary

Conquer the most essential adaptation to the knowledge economy

The Fearless Organization: Creating Psychological Safety in the Workplace for Learning, Innovation, and Growth offers practical guidance for teams and organizations who are serious about success in the modern economy。 With so much riding on innovation, creativity, and spark, it is essential to attract and retain quality talent--but what good does this talent do if no one is able to speak their mind? The traditional culture of "fitting in" and "going along" spells doom in the knowledge economy。 Success requires a continuous influx of new ideas, new challenges, and critical thought, and the interpersonal climate must not suppress, silence, ridicule or intimidate。 Not every idea is good, and yes there are stupid questions, and yes dissent can slow things down, but talking through these things is an essential part of the creative process。 People must be allowed to voice half-finished thoughts, ask questions from left field, and brainstorm out loud; it creates a culture in which a minor flub or momentary lapse is no big deal, and where actual mistakes are owned and corrected, and where the next left-field idea could be the next big thing。

This book explores this culture of psychological safety, and provides a blueprint for bringing it to life。 The road is sometimes bumpy, but succinct and informative scenario-based explanations provide a clear path forward to constant learning and healthy innovation。

* Explore the link between psychological safety and high performance
* Create a culture where it's "safe" to express ideas, ask questions, and admit mistakes
* Nurture the level of engagement and candor required in today's knowledge economy
* Follow a step-by-step framework for establishing psychological safety in your team or organization

Shed the "yes-men" approach and step into real performance。 Fertilize creativity, clarify goals, achieve accountability, redefine leadership, and much more。 The Fearless Organization helps you bring about this most critical transformation。

This is 3。5 ish。 It is a good researched book on psychological safety。 A variety of examples of what contributes to a psychological safe work environment and what can inhibit that sort of environment (VUCA)。 There are not really any tools, resources, take aways in this book。 It is more academic。

Good information on how to move forward as a leader within an organization。

Jill Nathanson

Well written book shows the benefits of a psychologically safe workplace where employees can speak up, and where it is okay to make mistakes。 Great examples and a game plan for leaders to create this type of environment。

Definitely had interesting and thoughtful concepts, but seemed drawn out。 Perhaps it would be better as a seminar or combined with other concepts。 To me, the psychological safety could have been a chapter or two, then add other important things needed to build a successful organization。

Interesting concept。 The repetitiveness got to me in the end。 I generally don't mind repetitive content as it helps to drive the point home, but this was a bit much。 Interesting concept。 The repetitiveness got to me in the end。 I generally don't mind repetitive content as it helps to drive the point home, but this was a bit much。 。。。more

If this is a new concept then this book will be a great read。 It has plenty of case studies to help the concepts of psychological safety stick。 But if you’re not new to this concept then there’s nothing useful that you probably won’t already know。 I think overall this is a valuable book but one that cites many studies and even car studies that are well-traveled with plenty of examples online。

This book is about creating a learning environment through psychological safety in the workplace。 It is an excellent book。 The real company examples illustrated the lack of and presence of psychological safety well。 As a consultant who helps leaders create psychological safety in their companies, I especially appreciated the FAQs at the end of the book。

Baseline on Psychological SafetyThis one has been in my queue for a while。 The basic framing here is that when it is easier to stay silent, the team/group/organization has created that environment。 And I liked the observation that silence or the unspoken word is hard to “see”。 You don’t know what the organization lost until maybe too late。The book is full of both low and high psychological safety scenarios。 And it is easy to see myself in them - and be somewhat uncomfortable at how easy it is to Baseline on Psychological SafetyThis one has been in my queue for a while。 The basic framing here is that when it is easier to stay silent, the team/group/organization has created that environment。 And I liked the observation that silence or the unspoken word is hard to “see”。 You don’t know what the organization lost until maybe too late。The book is full of both low and high psychological safety scenarios。 And it is easy to see myself in them - and be somewhat uncomfortable at how easy it is to sit back and say nothing, instead of speaking up。 。。。more

A nice perspective on the importance on building an organization based on fearless values。 Transparency, fairness, and accountability were threads throughout all of the case studies。 After some time things felt redundant, but overall a good book on micro-organizational behavior。

Colomba Lyall - I recommend this book because feeling safe is crucial for building a positive relationship。 Managers need to instill a culture that encompasses psychological safety if they want their relationship with their employees to succeed。

Really enjoyed hearing more about the research and case studies behind psychological safety。 While there was an acknowledgement of cultural differences, I’d have liked a few more case studies from a wider range of countries and business sectors。 That aside, this is an excellent read for anyone wanting to learn more about creating psychologically safe workplaces。

The benchmark on psychological safety in the workplace, a really important topic affecting a lot companies, whether they like it or not。

Easier said than done, but consistently applied over years as an organization grows, psychological safety should grow with it。 My impression is that the tech industry is making decent progress overall in this area。
