This was a nice departure from the heavier books I read recently, but I wonder if it will age well。 There are so many references to current events, styles, tv shows, products, and brands。 It is also very heavy-handed in what is presumably the author’s woke views。 Her portrayal of wealthy women (CeCe) juxtaposed with her portrayal of Gen Y (Hayden), the “religious” person who hasn’t been to church since Easter (Janelle), the sassy black woman who just happens to know everything (LaVonne), and her This was a nice departure from the heavier books I read recently, but I wonder if it will age well。 There are so many references to current events, styles, tv shows, products, and brands。 It is also very heavy-handed in what is presumably the author’s woke views。 Her portrayal of wealthy women (CeCe) juxtaposed with her portrayal of Gen Y (Hayden), the “religious” person who hasn’t been to church since Easter (Janelle), the sassy black woman who just happens to know everything (LaVonne), and her defense of sex work made me groan。 The overall storyline was fine, but the details made me cringe。 I also sometimes had an issue with remembering whose chapter it was, so the constant switching of first person was difficult。 So many storylines went unresolved when it abruptly ended, so that was also disappointing。 I’m not sure if she’s trying to set it up for another book, but I probably won’t be reading it。 。。。more
Sara,
Free monthly Prime choice。 I was looking for something simple and fun but this was too disorganized。
Teresa,
Fun!It is 3:36am as I type this!I appreciated how Lancaster wove together three women's lives, their perspectives, and the story as a whole。 There were thoughtful details that nailed it。 Why didn't I give it five stars if I enjoyed it so? I'm questioning this myself。。。。Anyhoo, if you're deciding if you should start this book or not, go for it。 Fun!It is 3:36am as I type this!I appreciated how Lancaster wove together three women's lives, their perspectives, and the story as a whole。 There were thoughtful details that nailed it。 Why didn't I give it five stars if I enjoyed it so? Diane Maloney,
An enjoyable read。 Easy to get involved in the story。 The main characters are varied。 Love how the connect and befriend one another。 It’s nice to read something lighthearted with a happy ending。
Danna Hall,
Please let this be a series! This book was great! So many excellent characters, such funny lines。 I really need more of these people。 I’m giving it 5 stars because it is really that good。 But I do hope that’s not the end。 It needs additional books to give us more of the story and let us know what the heck happens!!! I would definitely keep reading!
Nikki,
not for me 🙃
Laura,
Easy Beach read。 Not a lot of depth but a fun story。
Mary Ann,
Reading This Book was FunThere are many fun comments and descriptions which just made a good story better。 I was close to my house mother when in college and know they are all different with a wide range experience and talent。
Char,
This was a hard book to put down once I started reading it。 I was intrigued by the characters and their plot lines。 I found this book to be funny, playful, and surreal。
Kasiah,
I actually really enjoyed this book, but as I suspected half way through, the ending felt a little rushed。 I wouldn't reading a Part 2 to this as I feel there were some loose ends that need to be tied up。 I actually really enjoyed this book, but as I suspected half way through, the ending felt a little rushed。 I wouldn't reading a Part 2 to this as I feel there were some loose ends that need to be tied up。 。。。more
Jodi,
If you have ever read anything by Jen Lancaster then you know what to expect。 3。5 stars。
Jaimee,
I REALLY wanted to love this book。 I love pretty much everything from this author, from memoirs to Instagram posts。 And this is a fun easy read but I didn’t think it was great。 The authors note at the end explains that this novel was originally developed as a screenplay, which I think is sort of the problem - the characters are delightful and well developed, and the story seems a bit like an afterthought。 Jen please forgive me!
Bonnie Krueger,
A fun quick brainless read。 It was such a nice diversion from my usual genres。 I thought the characters were fun。 If I have a complaint it’s the last chapter。 Felt off topic。
Mary,
This book is fluff, it started as an idea for a sitcom which was never picked up。 It could have worked as a tv program。
Rae,
I found this pretty disjointed and slow - then it suddenly picks up。 I was reading on my kindle and was shocked when it was the last page - there was absolutely no resolution。 I assume there will be a second book? I normally love Jen Lancaster but this one was a bit of a let down for me。
Michelle Beyronneau,
I have mixed feelings about this book and it’s really a 3。5 star read for me。 The characters were interesting and developed over time, but in many ways it also feels unfinished? I enjoyed it, but I don’t think I’d read it again。 Take from that what you will…
Nan,
Totally fun! With three interior dialogues from the three main characters going full tilt, it’s fun to determine which are unreliable narrators。 But ultimately, I grew to love them all。
Jori,
3。5 stars
Diane Ljungquist,
boringI had trouble getting into the characters and the plot。 I almost didn’t finish but kept on hoping some redeeming qualities! Not a book I would ever recommend!
Derek Dupuis,
Cute and fluffy and not at all deep。 It was just fun and light, and I enjoyed not having to think too deeply。
Jocelyn Robinson,
Got this on a whim。。。 I was pleasantly surprised!! Very cute。 Starts with introducing a lot of characters and I wasn't sure where it was going to go but it all came together。 Worth the read! Edie Light,
This was a fun read。 Hard to get into at first because they relationships aren’t as fully explained as they should be, but once i figured that out, it was very fun。 Won’t change your life, but it is fun read and would make a fun movie。
Jenn Carbone,
The stories lead up to 。。。。NOTHING。 Long drug out stories and yea the rich broad found some niceness ans maybe her and her kid are OK but it just ends。 Easy read good story kinda, but left hanging。
Melisa Feustel,
love this!!I devoured this book! Such a great read - perfect for a vacation book。 Light, sweet, funny。 Character development was spot on! I would like a sequel 😘
CindyReads,
DNF。 The story setup in the first 15% was all over the place and there was nothing in that 15% I enjoyed, so I just can’t go on。 I probably shouldn’t give a rating but I am because this is how negatively I feel but it。 :(
Kelly,
it ended too soonI want to know what happens next to these characters…I learned there was more than one kind of house mom through Jen’s witty story telling。 She cracks me up!
CATHERINE E。 LOUGHLIN,
Entertaining。 A little confusing but good。 Took awhile to get started and then ended sort of abruptly。
Maria Ruiz,
Easy read but the ending was so abrupt。。。really need some more closure with these characters。
Janelle Gosline,
3。5 stars rounded up
Karen,
Wonderful!!Did not want the story to end and hoping there will be a sequel!! Could not put the book down。
