2。75 starsThe story is ridiculous, and I could not willingly suspend disbelief。 The story would have been much stronger if Lizzy and Darcy had known one another before。 Sadly they didn’t, so Elizabeth falls creepy hard for a stranger’s statue, rather like that guy on My Strange Obsession who harbors tender feelings for his car。 At least the story moved at a quick pace and didn’t drag in unnecessary characters。

3。5 rounded up。 This was a sweet “love conquers all” fairytale。 It is not a long read, and is a fun way to pass a couple of hours。 The connection to P&P was flimsy with no remarkable resemblance to the original。 The story begins with a prologue that introduces a curse connected to an amulet that had fallen into the hands of a debt ridden Lord Stretton, the eldest son and heir of Lord Matlock。 The pair are plotting how to overcome their financial woes。 About a year later, Elizabeth feels a strang 3。5 rounded up。 This was a sweet “love conquers all” fairytale。 It is not a long read, and is a fun way to pass a couple of hours。 The connection to P&P was flimsy with no remarkable resemblance to the original。 The story begins with a prologue that introduces a curse connected to an amulet that had fallen into the hands of a debt ridden Lord Stretton, the eldest son and heir of Lord Matlock。 The pair are plotting how to overcome their financial woes。 About a year later, Elizabeth feels a strange connection to the missing master of Pemberley, Fitzwilliam Darcy, as she tours his estate with her Aunt and Uncle Gardiner。 She meets and offers friendship to Mr。 Darcy’s sister when the two women meet in front of a life sized statue of the master in the garden。 Elizabeth is trying to understand how such strong feelings are inspired by a man she has never met and feels she can even hear and understand him。The rest of the story was understanding the curse and determining who would imprison Mr。 Darcy and how to free him from his stone prison。 There is, of course, a HEA as you would expect in any fairy tale and it was refreshing to see that in a battle between love and fear, love prevails! I enjoyed this story, but felt it could have been improved had it been developed and expanded a bit。 There were times were this felt more like an outline of a story than an actual story。 Of course, it was a short story, so maybe the intention was short and sweet。 Either way, it was not deep or substantive, but it was enjoyable。 。。。more

This novella is incredible! It is magical, gripping, intriguing, fairytale-esque, and so much more! Whenever I picked up "Pemberley by Moonlight", I was whisked back in time, and went on such an emotional journey with this story。This is the first book I have read by Stephen Ord, and it certainly will not be my last。 The writing in this book is incredibly visceral, enthralling, and whimsical。 I was pulled in from the very first page to the last, and had such a difficult time putting this book down as I could not wait to see what was going to happen next。 This "Pride and Prejudice" variation combines many elements: fairytale, gothic, mystery, and more。 More of an off-canon variation, this book combines some elements from Jane Austen's original novel with many of Stephen Ord's own creation。 Two men, Lord Matlock and Viscount Stretton, are so set on getting Mr。 Darcy's fortune that they are willing to go to any lengths to get it, regardless of who or what they harm in the process。 At the beginning of this story, Darcy has gone missing, and no one has been able to find him or any clues regarding his disappearance。 As Elizabeth, with her aunt and uncle, is touring Pemberley, she overhears Georgiana, Darcy's sister, talking to a statue of Darcy。 Something draws Elizabeth to the statue, and the family members are soon invited to stay at Pemberley。 Elizabeth soon notices some supernatural occurrences at night surrounding the statue。 Will anyone be able to figure out what caused Darcy to disappear? Will they be able to save him? Will there be a happily-ever-after? You will just need to read to find out。 If you enjoy Jane Austen variations, I highly recommend this book! It kept me turning the pages to see how everything would work out, and I look forward to reading what Stephen Ord writes next。 Thank you so much to Quills & Quartos Publishing for the ARC of this novella, it is incredible。 All opinions expressed in this review are my own。 。。。more

This is a charming novella that's part fairy tale, part mystery, and part Pride and Prejudice。 It's more the first two than the last, though it uses P&P character names。 Lord Matlock and his son, Viscount Stretton (Mr。 Darcy's uncle and cousin, respectively) are the villains here, as is made very clear in the Prologue。 They've gotten hold of a special ancient stone and plan to curse Darcy with it, targeting him in order to get control of Pemberley and all its riches。 The first chapter jumps ahea This is a charming novella that's part fairy tale, part mystery, and part Pride and Prejudice。 It's more the first two than the last, though it uses P&P character names。 Lord Matlock and his son, Viscount Stretton (Mr。 Darcy's uncle and cousin, respectively) are the villains here, as is made very clear in the Prologue。 They've gotten hold of a special ancient stone and plan to curse Darcy with it, targeting him in order to get control of Pemberley and all its riches。 The first chapter jumps ahead, introducing Elizabeth Bennet as she tours Pemberley with her aunt and uncle Gardiner and learns more about the mystery surrounding its owner: he disappeared almost a year ago, and his whereabouts continue to be unknown despite exhaustive searching by investigators。 Elizabeth comes across a lifelike statue of Mr。 Darcy in the rose garden and overhears Georgiana speaking to it, begging her brother to return before their uncle has him declared dead and forces her to marry Viscount Stretton。 The two ladies quickly become friends。 Georgiana invites Elizabeth and her relations to stay at Pemberley, and Elizabeth continues to be fascinated by Darcy's statue。 It isn't long before she notices a strange fog that envelops it at night and dissipates in the early morning, and she hears a man's voice in its vicinity。 What does it all mean? Can she help Mr。 Darcy come back to his sister? The tale is well-written, if somewhat predictable (as fairy tales usually are)。 The connection to Pride and Prejudice is flimsy - there's no pride or prejudice between Elizabeth and Darcy, the entire story takes place solely at Pemberley, there are no Bennets beside Elizabeth, none of the Bingleys appear (although Mr。 Bingley, identified as a friend of Mr。 Darcy, is married to Elizabeth's sister Jane), and no Lady Catherine or Mr。 Collins。 The entire plot is a fantasy/fairy tale rather than anything I would ordinarily consider Austenesque。However, it's a short, entertaining read。 Those who don't mind stories that take a great deal of artistic license with P&P characters will surely enjoy it。 Content is clean。 I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review。 。。。more

I loved this book。 Even though it has a very unusual relationship for E&D, it still touched my heart。

The story of Pemberley by Moonlight very creatively blends Jane Austin's novel with a touch of fantasy。 Despite being a short story, the plot is captivating and keeps the reader hooked from the start。 The arrogant Mr。 Darcy is driven to assume a position of humility by his circumstances, which causes him to fall into Elisabeth's good graces from the start, thus softening this turbulent relationship from the original novel。 A novel to read this holiday season!I received a free copy of this book v The story of Pemberley by Moonlight very creatively blends Jane Austin's novel with a touch of fantasy。 Despite being a short story, the plot is captivating and keeps the reader hooked from the start。 The arrogant Mr。 Darcy is driven to assume a position of humility by his circumstances, which causes him to fall into Elisabeth's good graces from the start, thus softening this turbulent relationship from the original novel。 A novel to read this holiday season!I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review。 。。。more

The premise is well related in the author's blurb。 However the first few pages give us, the readers, the best hint at just what is happening。 Lord Matlock and his heir, Stretton, have reasons to scheme as they have brought their own estate into ruin。 Finding a way to make Darcy disappear will allow them access to his heir, Georgiana, and the wealth of Pemberley and Darcy's other estates。Elizabeth has never met Darcy even though Jane has married Bingley。 She travels with her Aunt and Uncle Gardin The premise is well related in the author's blurb。 However the first few pages give us, the readers, the best hint at just what is happening。 Lord Matlock and his heir, Stretton, have reasons to scheme as they have brought their own estate into ruin。 Finding a way to make Darcy disappear will allow them access to his heir, Georgiana, and the wealth of Pemberley and Darcy's other estates。Elizabeth has never met Darcy even though Jane has married Bingley。 She travels with her Aunt and Uncle Gardiner to Lambton and in meeting Georgiana while touring, befriend her and are invited to stay at Pemberley。 Elizabeth finds herself drawn to the statue of Fitzwilliam Darcy and soon is fighting mists at night which fight to prevent her reaching the statue and cause actual pain。 Elizabeth finds herself hearing a voice which she determines is coming from that frozen piece of masonry。 As she visits more than once she soon finds herself falling in love with the man and hears that voice relating his own "ardent admiration and love"。The Colonel arrives and we have scenes involving how to release Darcy and also involving Matlock's and Stretton's last attempts to gain their goal。 I highly recommend this fantasy romance story。 And I have to add that the cover is lovely!I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review。 。。。more

Can true love save the day? This is well written, but in a style that I can see young girls enjoying it too。 There is nothing heavy or angsty about it at all-despite the supernatural drama。 Fairly clean, with only a little kissing。4。5* for being too short。 Couldn't put it down。I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review。 。。。more

Is it not beautiful?” Mrs。 Gardiner asked admiringly。 “Truly, one would put up with much to become mistress of Pemberley。”“Sadly, Aunt, for someone to become the mistress of Pemberley, one would need to find its master。”Villainy was revealed in the Prologue。 Now we learn the backstory: Fitzwilliam Darcy, master of Pemberley, had disappeared nearly a year before。 He could not accompany his friend Bingley to inspect Netherfield Park。 He met no residents of Meryton。A statue of the missing man resides in the garden at Pemberley。Quote from the book: Unlike the portrait however, Mr。 Darcy’s statue was placed in a peculiar, almost distressing posture。 Whereas Mr。 Darcy’s portrait showed a more commonly-seen upright stance of strength, the gentleman’s statue stood with his arms stretched towards Pemberley, the expression on his face appearing almost pleading。 To Elizabeth, it was as if his whole heart was contained within that beautiful building, and by his will alone, he would protect it and all within。Elizabeth is captivated by the statue — then she begins to imagine it speaks to her。 A nighttime visit to the garden reveals a strange mist swirling around her。Quote from the book: The effect on her state of mind was disturbing, as every insecurity that Elizabeth had ever experienced assailed her。 Her mother’s slights on her looks in comparison to her favoured daughters, Jane and Lydia; her faulty discernment with regards to Mr。 Wickham’s character; her fear of being compelled into a marriage of convenience with an awful man like her father’s cousin Mr。 Collins。 Every little fear passed through her head with brutal force that nearly made her cry out。Don't ask questions of fairy tales。 ~ Jewish folk sayingI began reading before bedtime。 At 11 PM, I put the book aside and went to bed。 Then, nothing else would do。 I had to get up, return to the living room and finish the story! I could put it down。 I just could not leave it put down。 Fortunately for my beauty sleep, the story is short。I did have some disbelief in the resolution of the story。 How is the change in circumstances of Lord Matlock and the Viscount explained? Why does no one question the appearance of works of art? Who pays for those things anyway? But, what the hey, it’s a FAIRY TALE!
