Summary

Teen pop star Brittany Crutcher is found dead in small-town Tennessee。 For attorney Bocephus Haynes, it’s just another night in Pulaski。 Bo swore off criminal work after his last case, but the beloved singer’s murder demands answers。

The prime suspect is local high school football hero and the victim’s boyfriend, Odell Champagne。 However, this fallen athlete is one of Bo’s son’s best friends。 Bo knows this young man and does not believe him capable of the crime。

When Odell is charged with murder, Bo reluctantly takes the case, sparking outrage throughout the town。 But as Bo follows the evidence, he learns that the victim made decisions in her last hours that would give powerful forces motive to harm her。 Feeling mounting pressure from the community and the DA, Bo forges ahead。 But as the seconds count down, he wonders whether justice is even possible。

The narrator does an amazing job。 Check out them out if you are an audio book lover。 。。。more

Good legal mystery with great setting in small Southern town。 The local football hero is accused of killing his girlfriend, the local teen singing sensation, about to leave town and hit the big time。 There are more plausible killers with reasons to resent girlfriend’s sudden success than one would imagine in such a small town and it’s a delight to learn each of their stories。 This is a multi-layered tale with more secrets than one could possible imagine。 It’s a fast moving story not to be missed Good legal mystery with great setting in small Southern town。 The local football hero is accused of killing his girlfriend, the local teen singing sensation, about to leave town and hit the big time。 There are more plausible killers with reasons to resent girlfriend’s sudden success than one would imagine in such a small town and it’s a delight to learn each of their stories。 This is a multi-layered tale with more secrets than one could possible imagine。 It’s a fast moving story not to be missed。 I received my copy from the publisher through NetGalley。 。。。more

This book is very well written, has great characters, and is very entertaining despite the very slow story。 The murder happens 16% into the book, and the main character agrees to be the defendant's lawyer after 60%(!)。 That's incredibly slow。I also feel that the notion of the public and the prosecution jumping to conclusions is getting a little old。 Haven't people gotten any smarter? Nothing points to any other suspects。 Right or wrong Bo has to make a decision that may just end his own career。The Wrong Side is in the hands of the talented Robert Bailey who brings the character of Bocephus Haynes to life front and center。 Bo has made a multitude of mistakes in his life and almost lost custody of his own children。 But you couldn't ask for a steadier hand than Bo's。 Bailey inserts rich dialogue that commands attention and leaves the reader sitting up straighter。 Real, raw, and human。 The Wrong Side tips the scales with a very original and very deeply drawn main character as Bocephus Haynes。I received a copy of this book through NetGalley for an honest review。 My thanks to Thomas & Mercer and to Robert Bailey for the opportunity。 。。。more

Thanks so much for the advance copy, this was already on my preorder Amazon list。 I have read all the other titles by this arthor & really liked the McMurtre series too。 I selected Bailey's books because I live in the south & love pro football。 His knowledge of the deep south, race & highschool football is good。I had a pretty good idea of "who done it" early on, I was close, but wrong, kept me guessing。Thought provoking, easy read, would recommend。I would advise reading first in series to better Thanks so much for the advance copy, this was already on my preorder Amazon list。 I have read all the other titles by this arthor & really liked the McMurtre series too。 I selected Bailey's books because I live in the south & love pro football。 His knowledge of the deep south, race & highschool football is good。I had a pretty good idea of "who done it" early on, I was close, but wrong, kept me guessing。Thought provoking, easy read, would recommend。I would advise reading first in series to better understand characters。 。。。more

This was good! I enjoyed the story a lot and didn't see the surprise coming。 Well written。 The small town Tennessee locale was a nice touch - I'm actually from the area and greatly enjoyed seeing all the local references。 This was a good book。 This was good! I have become a massive fan of Robert Bailey, the author of the McMurtrie and Drake legal thrillers。 I have read a couple of them and fully intend to read the other two but I have really enjoyed both of the Bocephus Haynes series, which debuted with Legacy of Lies and the is the follow up。 All of his books are linked and it helps with the backstory to have read the earlier ones。 This is a wonderfully told tale of justice in the deep south with an excellent plot which draws you in as well as char I have become a massive fan of Robert Bailey, the author of the McMurtrie and Drake legal thrillers。 I have read a couple of them and fully intend to read the other two but I have really enjoyed both of the Bocephus Haynes series, which debuted with Legacy of Lies and the is the follow up。 All of his books are linked and it helps with the backstory to have read the earlier ones。 This is a wonderfully told tale of justice in the deep south with an excellent plot which draws you in as well as characters who are beautifully depicted and who you really care about。An exceptional book which deserves a wide audience。 。。。more

A great addition to Robert Bailey’s series。 Bocephus is carrying on the legacy of the Professor in another great story that features not only the well-developed characters, but also the South itself。 I received an advanced digital copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review。
